Edith Weber

Edith Weber (born November 1, 1941 in Weißenfels ) is a former German trade unionist and politician . She was chairman of the chemical, glass and ceramics industrial union in the FDGB and a member of the Central Committee of the SED .

Life

Weber, the daughter of a working-class family, completed an apprenticeship as a chemical laboratory assistant in the VEB paraffin factory "Vorwärts" in Webau between 1956 and 1959 . In 1956 she became a member of the FDJ . From 1959 to 1961 she worked as a teaching instructor. Between 1961 and 1964 she studied at the “Justus von Liebig” chemical engineering school in Magdeburg - Westerhüsen , graduating as a chemical engineer / technologist. From 1964 to 1969 she was teaching master or department head at VEB Paraffinwerk "Vorwärts" in Webau. In 1967 she joined the SED, in 1969/70 she worked as an inspector for vocational training at VEB Mineralöle Halle (Saale) , and from 1970 to 1972 in the same function at VEB PCK Schwedt . Between 1970 and 1972 she completed an additional pedagogical course as a teacher at the Potsdam University of Education . From 1972 to 1975 she worked as a secretary for education and as a department head at the central board of the IG Chemie, Glas und Keramik in Halle (Saale). From 1975 to 1978 she studied at the Academy for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the CPSU in Moscow . She completed her studies with a degree in social science .

In 1978 she became deputy chairwoman and from 1980 to 1989 she was finally chairwoman of the central board of the IG Chemie, Glas und Keramik. Between 1982 and 1989 Weber was a member of the Presidium of the FDGB Federal Executive Board and a candidate in 1981, and from 1982 to 1989 a member of the Central Committee of the SED.
