Edge (in the 17th century with the meaning "edge, corner" from Lower Germany, from Gallic Latin canthus "iron wheel tire, wheel rim ") denotes:

  • generally a line in which two surfaces meet
  • an edge or fold on textiles, e.g. B. the selvedge , a trim or the fabric break
  • In image processing, a discontinuity in the spatial gray value function g (x) of the image plane, see edge detection
  • in film and photography a light directed mostly from behind on the subject (also effect light, hair light), see light guidance
  • Edge (unit) , a piece measure in Fulda
  • Agar in the Japanese language - a gelling agent obtained from algae
  • Kante (band) , a music group from Hamburg
