The cantonal referendum "Credit for the planning of an underground station in Lucerne" was a referendum in the Swiss canton of Lucerne that took place on November 29, 2009. The content of the vote was the approval of a loan for the planning of an underground station in Lucerne station .

Background and content

At the time of the referendum, both the Lucerne train station and the access road had reached their capacity limits with 850 daily trains. A forecast by SBB shows that around 40% more passengers can be expected by 2030. The SBB also developed four proposed solutions, one of which highlighted an underground station below the current station as the best option. In order for the project to have a chance of being included by the federal government in the Bahn 2030 program , a preliminary project for detailed elaboration is necessary. The cost of this preliminary project is CHF 20 million, which the Canton of Lucerne cast its vote on in a referendum.
