The Cantonal School Sursee is a public school in the Canton of Lucerne in Sursee ( Switzerland ). With around 850 students, it is the second largest grammar school in the Canton of Lucerne after the Alpenquai Lucerne School .

History and architecture

The canton school in Sursee on Moosgasse was built in 1970/71 as a successor to the St. Georg school house, which until then housed the middle school, and has been rebuilt and enlarged again and again since then. The building of the canton school was planned by Max Wandeler; the layout of the first stage is the same as that of the Reussbühl Cantonal School, but mirrored.

In 1985, three more classrooms were added to the west wing (in which there are two gyms) in Sursee, one above the other. The so-called supplementary building optimally complements the existing basic structure. In 1996 the still open entrance hall was closed, and the caretaker's apartment on the first floor above the entrance was converted into a classroom. In the basement, new work and drawing rooms were created on the side of the inner courtyard.

New building

In 2004/05 a new biology / chemistry supplementary section was built next to the main building. The criteria for the new building were that it could be stepped up. In the first stage, new rooms for biology and chemistry classes were to be created by 2005, in a second stage rooms for housekeeping, which do not yet exist on the school premises, as well as for physics. A cafeteria is also to be built. However, there is also discussion of building a new cafeteria instead of the cafeteria and moving the existing cafeteria to the library in order to gain new classrooms. Another criterion was that a gym should be planned in the first or then in the second stage, but this was also revoked.

The winning project comes from Franz Amberg & Hess + Partner AG, Sursee, and is called Purple .

Infrastructure

In addition to the numerous classrooms, the Sursee Cantonal School has two gyms, two bike rooms, a cafeteria, a library, three biotopes, an outdoor sports area and an atrium, which is the center, and there is also an auditorium.

On the neighboring property is the Schlottermilch stadium, a football field with a 400-meter track and facilities for athletics. This facility is mainly used for physical education and the annual sports day. The Sursee town hall is less than ten minutes away and has also been used for physical education since the 2009/10 school year.

deals

There are three types of school at the Sursee Cantonal School: the long-term high school, the short-term high school and the technical secondary school. The long-term high school lasts six years and ends with the Matura. The short-term high school lasts four years and ends with the Matura. The technical middle school lasts seven semesters. The conclusion is a mixture of high school diploma and vocational high school diploma: Pupils who have successfully passed the high school diploma can enter educational professions. English and French are basic subjects. Italian can be taken as a major and Spanish as an optional subject.
