history

The association was founded on February 2, 1953 with 16 active and 2 passive members.

Already in the first year of sport there was success in canoe racing (4 victories), in canoe slalom (5 victories) and in canoeing (11 hiker badges).

The first boat storage from 1953 could not be maintained, so a barrack was purchased on the pioneer island. In April 1954, the sports operations could be started from this location, in October 1954 the construction of a stone boat shed began. During this time, Saturday was usually still a working day, so that work on the boathouse could only go ahead on Sundays. In the summer of 1956 the boathouse was ready to move into, and the last work was completed in the course of 1957.

In 1956 the decision was made to add a club room, sanitary facilities and changing rooms to the boathouse. Construction began in the summer of 1967 and was completed in 1976 and was carried out entirely in-house.

In 1966, the KSH was reinforced by the merger with the "Harburger Wanderpaddlers". In the following years there was a strong influx of new members, in 1974 the number of members rose to over 100 for the first time.

In 1976, the second " flood of the century " caused major damage to the building structure and fixtures, and the Hamburger Sportbund was able to regulate a large part of the damage. In 1978 the first "real" night trip to Barum started (start at 1am at the boathouse, breakfast at 7am in Barum and back again). The following years were characterized by canoeing.

In 1982 the construction of a team canoe began. In 1983 the first edition of the club newspaper "Kanuspiegel" appeared. In 1987 the roof of the boat shed was completely renewed. In 1989 the bridgehead pontoon was completely renewed. 1994-2000 extensive work on the boathouse was necessary.
