Günter Brümmer

Günter Brümmer (born February 15, 1933 ; † January 1, 2020 ) was a German canoeist and canoe trainer.

Career

In February 1953 Brümmer founded the Canoe Sport Harburg association with 17 sports fans . Two years later he drove home the first German championship in canoe slalom (C2) with Heinz Gödel . Together with Gödel and later with Hermann Roock , he won eight German championship titles by 1963. At the Canoe World Championships in Spittal in 1963, he was runner-up in the C2 canoe slalom with the German team and won the bronze medal in the two-man canoe in the white water team competition.

For this he was awarded the silver bay leaf on May 10, 1968.

In 1964 he ended his career as a competitive athlete and began studying at the Sport University in Cologne . In 1969 he was appointed national trainer by the German Canoe Association (DKV). During this activity, he promoted many young athletes and led canoeists like Thomas Schmidt , André Ehrenberg and Michael Senft to medal successes at the Olympic Games.

After his retirement he worked as a trainer at Wuhan University (China) and was an honorary trainer for DKV.
