Pulpit in Cambrai

The pulpit in the Catholic Church of St-Géry in Cambrai , a French town in the Nord department in the Hauts-de-France region , was created in 1840. The oak pulpit was added to the list of listed buildings ( Base Palissy ) in France in 1981 as Monument historique .

The pulpit, clearly visible in the nave, was designed by the architect André de Baralle and executed by the carvers René Fache and Huidiez. The wooden base is surrounded by three female figures who symbolize the three virtues of faith, hope and love. The pulpit shows Christ with the 12 apostles. To the right and left of it, two bishops are shown at the transition to the two stairs.

There are two large angel figures on the pulpit wall, symbolizing the Old and New Testaments . The round sound cover is crowned by a figure of Christ. At the bottom there is a carved dove as a symbol of the Holy Spirit .

Two horseshoe-shaped stairs lead to the pulpit. The banisters are decorated with the symbols of the Eucharist , bread and wine. At the beginning of the stairs, caryatids carry flower baskets on their heads.
