background
The series tries to depict the everyday life of politicians using fictitious but realistic stories, a concept that has already been successfully tested in the USA and Great Britain.
“The Chancellery is entertaining, exciting and interesting,” said ex- Chancellor Friedrich Bohl ( CDU ). Compared to the award-winning US template The West Wing - In the Center of Power , however , the Chancellery appeared to most critics rather shallow and trivial.
Since the audience ratings over the course of the run did not meet expectations by far, the last two parts were broadcast as a double episode and despite the cliff hanger that ends the last episode, the series was discontinued. Since the buildings have now been disposed of, a continuation is not to be expected.
literature
Based on the television series and its scripts, a book of the same name was also published, which was laid out as the diary of the fictional speechwriter Alexander Nachtweih .
