Martin E. Süskind

Martin Erhard Süskind (born July 12, 1944 in Ambach am Starnberger See , † September 12, 2009 in Berlin ) was a journalist and author .

Life

Süskind, son of the journalist WE Süskind and older brother of the writer Patrick Süskind , studied history in Munich and Edinburgh. He began his career as a journalist with the American news agency United Press International (UPI). In 1971 he was one of the former employees of the German-speaking service of UPI, who founded the Deutsche Depeschendienst (ddp). He then worked for the Süddeutsche Zeitung as a correspondent in Bonn. In 1975, he was speechwriter of Willy Brandt . In 1979 he returned to the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" and later became its office manager in Bonn. In 1992 he was awarded the Theodor Wolff Prize . From 1997 to 1999 he was editor- in- chief at the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger , in the same position he headed the Berliner Zeitung until 2001 . Martin E. Süskind has been working as a freelance author and journalist since 2001.

In 2005 he worked with technical advice and as a co-author of the television series Chancellery .

Süskind died on September 12, 2009 at the age of 65 after a serious illness.
