Cape Crillon ( Russian Мыс Крильон Mys Krilon ) is the southernmost point of the Russian island of Sakhalin .

It was named by Jean-François de La Pérouse after the French general Louis des Balbes de Berton de Crillon when it was discovered .

In the west the cape is washed by the Sea of Japan, in the east by the Sea of Okhotsk .

When visibility is good, the view opens up across La Pérouse Street to Cape Soya, 43 kilometers away on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō .

At the cape there is a weather station , a lighthouse and a military base .
