Cape Disappointment is a cape that marks the southernmost landmass of the island of South Georgia . It lies northwest of Green Island and forms the southern limit of the entrance to Rogged Bay .
The British navigator and explorer James Cook discovered the Cape in 1775 as part of his second South Sea voyage (1772–1775). He named it after his disappointment (English disappointment ), after discovering that it is in the sighted by him land mass around an island and not as they had hoped for a continent.
