Cape Simonow ( Russian Мыс Симонова Mys Simonowa ) is a cape on the Sabrina coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland . It protrudes east of the mouth of the Totten Glacier in the Southern Ocean .
The American cartographer Gardner Dean Blodgett (* 1925), employee of the Department of Geography in the United States Department of the Interior , mapped it in 1955 using aerial photographs of Operation Highjump (1946-1947) of the United States Navy . Further aerial photos were taken in 1956 during a Soviet Antarctic expedition . It is named after Iwan Michailowitsch Simonow (1794–1855), Russian astronomer and participant in the first Russian Antarctic expedition (1819–1821) under the direction of Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen .
