The Sabrina Coast ( English Sabrina Coast ) is that part of the coast of Wilkesland in Antarctica , which lies between Cape Waldron at 115 ° 33 'E and Cape Southard at 122 ° 05' E.
Discovery story
John Balleny has long been credited with seeing land there in March 1839 at about 117 ° E. The United States Exploring Expedition under Lieutenant Charles Wilkes approached the coast in February 1840 and drew the rough location with the name "Totten High Land" on Wilkes' map from 1840. In 1931 the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition under Douglas Mawson sighted what appeared to be land over this length; but it was several degrees further south than the reported sightings of Balleny and Wilkes. In recognition of Balley's accomplishments, Mawson named the piece of land the Sabrina, one of Balley's ships that was lost in a storm at 95 ° E in late March 1839.
