Cape Southard is an ice-covered cape in Wilkesland, East Antarctica . It lies at the eastern end of the Moscow University Ice Shelf and marks the boundary between the Banzare and Sabrina coasts .
Aerial photographs of the US American Operation Highjump (1946–1947) were used to map it. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1955 after the American politician Samuel L. Southard (1787–1842), who was chairman of the committee for maritime affairs in the United States Senate from 1838 to 1842 and with whose significant assistance the United States Exploring Expedition (1838–1842) came about under the direction of Charles Wilkes .
