The Cape Vanhöffen ( English Vanhöffen Bluff ) is a 225 m high and rocky headland on the north coast of the island of Heard . It is located immediately east of the Jacka Glacier .
Participants in the Gauss expedition , led by the German polar explorer Erich von Drygalski, mapped and named a cliff 2.5 km northwest of the current position in 1902. Scientists from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions corrected this position determination in 1948. The name giver for the geographic object is the German zoologist Ernst Vanhöffen (1858–1918), a participant in the Gauss expedition.
