The Roman Catholic chapel in Bürgle , a district of the Upper Swabian community of Markt Wald in the Unterallgäu district ( Bavaria ), was built in the first half of the 18th century, has no measurement license and is a listed building.

Building description

The chapel from the 18th century consists of a small room with a flat ceiling and a three-sided end. In the oblique axes of the apse there are small rectangular windows, the two sides of the nave contain recessed, arched windows. Access to the chapel is through a rectangular door on the west side. The chapel is covered with a gable roof with sloping protruding profiled rafter heads from the second half of the 19th century. Above the west gable, above the entrance, there is a roof turret with a square base in the lower part, on which an octagonal upper part with arched openings on the north and south sides is placed. The ridge turret wears a pointed helmet .

Furnishing

The marbled altar made of wood is a popular work that was probably made in 1760. It consists of a box strip and a structure with two winding columns on which the figures of the kneeling Mary and the Evangelist John are attached. In a niche in the middle of the altar the Trinity is represented by a group of figures : in the lower area Jesus Christ , above the Holy Spirit and above between putti a half-figure of God the Father in a shell. Two wooden figures of St. Francis Xavier and St. John of Nepomuk from around 1780 stand in the cafeteria .

There are also a number of wooden figures in the chapel. The figure of St. Sebastian dates from the first half of the 16th century . The figures of Saint Joseph , Saint Joachim , Mater Dolorosa and the enthroned Mother of God on a white and gold-framed throne with rocailles and carrying bars are from the middle of the 18th century .

renovation

As part of the village renewal, a fundamental renovation of the chapel and furnishings took place in the 2000s under the direction of the district administrator Toni Mayer and the church painter Petra Stefan-Kunz, who was a church painter from Markt Walder. The citizens of Bürgl worked around 1,000 hours of voluntary work and donated money. On May 1, 2004, the chapel was blessed to complete the renovation.
