Bell tower

The Evangelical Lutheran chapel zu Weste is in Weste , Bevensen-Ebstorf, in the Lower Saxony district of Uelzen .

location

The chapel is located in the center of the village, directly on the local village street. The bell tower stands a few meters to the south and connects to a residential building. To the north and west it is surrounded by trees and bushes.

history

In Weste there were already two chapels before today's chapel building, which are no longer preserved. The first was built in the 10th century. The direct predecessor of today's chapel collapsed in 1769 and was demolished. The free-standing bell tower was still functional; it was replaced in 1841 by a slender half-timbered bell tower in which the bell of the previous building is located. In 1951 the tower was extended. It is a listed building .

In June 1986 an association for the construction of a new chapel was founded, which built today's chapel in 1987 from April to June with the help of donations. This is a small half-timbered building whose gable roof with red brick is covered.

Peal

The bell was cast in 1510 by the bell founder van der Heide in Lüneburg . It was initially confiscated during World War II and was not melted down as originally planned . Instead, she stayed in the port of Hamburg and was brought back to Weste in 1946.
