Chapel on the Kreuzberg

The chapel on the Kreuzberg is a listed building in Hallenberg , a country town in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The chapel was donated by the Mörchen brothers in 1725. Jakob Mörchen was first chaplain in Hallenberg and pastor from 1729 to 1763 . His brother Franz Ignaz Mörchen became his successor. He died in 1770.

The floor plan of the building is a smooth rectangle. The walls are made of quarry stone, the east wall was plastered, the other walls, as well as the window reveals , were slated. The windows, the door and the frames were made of wood. The ceiling is made of crooked wood, which is hung from the collar beam , as a steeply rising cove . The fillings are made of Wellerwerk . In the rectangular ceiling panels are five wounds of the Lord shown in stucco. The floors are covered with raw limestone slabs. In front of the west entrance there is an open vestibule with a hipped roof on four oak posts. The ridge on the gable roof is square.

Furnishing

  • The altar was made of wood in the middle of the 18th century. On it is a large Rococo- style crucifixion group . In the gable of the altar you can see a God the Father on a bank of clouds and above the Holy Spirit . Both representations are of a halo framed.
  • A Way of the Cross was donated by the Mörchen brothers in 1739 and consecrated by the Guardian of the Paderborn Franciscans. These works no longer exist.
