The Kar Plateau is a mainly snow-covered high plateau on the Scott Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . With an almost vertical dropout on the south side, it lies north of the Mackay Glacier estuary on the banks of Granite Harbor . At the north-western end it merges gently into the summit region of Mount Marston .
Participants in the Terra Nova Expedition (1910–1913) led by British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott mapped and named it. It is named after the Turkish term "Kar" for snow .
