Karan Mahajan (born April 24, 1984 in Stamford , Connecticut ) is an Indian-American writer, essayist and literary critic. He grew up in New Delhi and lives in Austin, Texas. His first novel, The Universe of the Ahuja Family, was nominated for the Dylan Thomas Prize and appeared in nine countries. His second novel, In the Company of Small Bombs, was shortlisted for the National Book Award 2016 and won numerous prizes. The New York Times voted it one of the "Ten Best Books of the Year". Karan Mahajan has contributed to numerous international publications such as The New York Times , The Wall Street Journal , The Believer and The New Yorker . He is on Granta's list of the "Best Young American Novelists" 2017.
