Karel Konrád
Karel Konrád (born March 28, 1899 in Louny , † December 11, 1971 in Prague ) was a Czech writer and journalist.
Life
After graduating from high school in Louny in March 1917 (together with Konstantin Biebl ), he had to join the military and continued studying chemistry after completing his basic training, initially for three semesters of chemistry, then history and geography at Charles University . He did not finish any of the studies. In 1930 he founded the magazine Dorn (Trn), which he edited until 1933, from 1925 and 1945 to 1948 he worked as an editor in the daily newspaper Rotes Recht ( Rudé právo ), then in the Barrandov film studios until his retirement in 1957 . Konrád enjoyed traveling and, above all, kept visiting France , Italy , Poland and Yugoslavia . He was also a member of the Devětsil association .
Works
Konrad was a representative of poetic prose. His novel Dinah , published in 1928 , is about the fate of a detained man who is allowed to use record players and falls in love with the voice of the singer Dinah. In separation! (Rozchod!) He processes his youthful memories with actually living people, whose fates only live in fantasy. The hero of the book is a student who has to drop out of college due to military service. In beds without a sky (Postele bez nebes) he describes young people who imitate the life of adults in play.
