Karel Mašek
Fa Presto (born December 29, 1867 in Prague ; † October 13, 1922 there ; actually Karel Mašek ) was a Czech poet .
Life
Mašek studied law at Charles University ; then he worked as a civil servant, from 1892 at the Prague court, from 1896 in the local magistrate. In addition to his full-time occupation, he was active as a poet and playwright and wrote humoresques and parodies in which he thematized the phenomena of bourgeois society at that time.
Works
Karel Mašek published numerous stories under the pseudonym Fa Presto , such as "Houses of Cards" (1896), "Queens without a Kingdom" (1898), "The Mill in the Desert" (1909), "The Shores of Eternal Spring" (1917), "A colorful bed full of love, anger and laughter" (1917), "Paintings for the Chronicle" (1920) and "The secret of the sweet tooth" (posthumously 1925).
The story Das Lied von den Sternen (Tr.: Gustav Just ) appeared in the anthology Ein Prager Sherlock Holmes - Czech Humoresques published by the Nation's publishing house in Berlin in 1990
