Karen Bliss (born December 19, 1963 in Quakertown ) is a former American cyclist .

Athletic career

Karen Bliss began cycling in 1982 as a member of Penn State University's cycling club . After graduating in 1985, she was accepted into the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs .

Between 1987 and 1996, Karen Bliss won seven US championship titles, in the track cycling discipline points cycling and in the criterion on the road . During these years she was part of the US national team and competed five times in the UCI Road World Championships : at the UCI Road World Championships in 1997 , she finished sixth in the road race. In total, she achieved 300 victories on the road and rail over the course of her career . In 1992 she won the Tour of Toona and the Tour of Somerville three times (1995, 1997 and 1998).

In the late 1990s, Bliss ended her active cycling career. She was honored with an induction into the Hall of Fame for the Valley Preferred Cycling Center . In 2019 she was inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame .

After ending her active cycling career, Karen Bliss stayed in cycling in various positions and campaigned for equal rights for female cyclists. She also wrote articles for Bicycling Magazine and sits on the board of directors of Advanced Sports International , which owns the Fuji Bikes brand and other bicycle brands ( as of 2020 ).
