Karen Heimer

Karen Heimer (* 1960 ) is an American sociologist and criminologist . She is a professor at the University of Iowa and will serve as President of the American Society of Criminology (ASC) in 2018 .

Heimer earned her Bachelor Accounts in psychology in 1981 at Florida Atlantic University , put the master -Examen (also in psychology) in 1984 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was there in 1989 in the subject Sociology for Ph.D. PhD. After a brief activity as an assistant professor at the University of Arizona , she moved to the University of Iowa in 1991, where she first became an assistant professor, then an associate professor and finally a full professor in 2006 .

She researches and teaches on the topics of gender and violence in the context of criminological issues. She is currently researching gender and racial differences among victims of violence, the maternity experiences of incarcerated women, and gender differences in law enforcement in the United States.
