Karen Karagesjan

Karen Karowitsch Karagesjan ( Russian Карен Карович Карагезьян , scientific transliteration Karen Karovič Karagezʹjan ; October 6, 1935 in Moscow ) is a Soviet and Russian journalist, translator and writer. He was deputy head of the international relations and press relations department of the Gorbachev Foundation and press spokesman, advisor and assistant to Mikhail Gorbachev . Karagesyan belonged to the Union of Journalists of the USSR.

biography

Karen Karowitsch Karagesyan was born in Moscow on October 6, 1935. After graduating from middle school №557 in 1953, he studied at the translation faculty of the first Moscow State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages . He graduated in 1958 with a specialization in teaching and translating the German language. He taught at the same institute for four years and worked as a professional translator at the Institute of Social Sciences in Moscow for two years.

From 1959 to 1960 he completed an exchange course at Heidelberg University in the German department.

In 1964 he became a journalist, later he worked as an editor and columnist and was head of the European countries department and member of the editorial team of the weekly magazine Abroad .

In 1977 he switched to the political weekly newspaper Neue Zeit . Until 1982 he worked as a reporter in the federal capital Bonn . In 1982 he returned to Moscow and continued his work as a columnist for Neue Zeit .

In 1983 Karagesyan was hired to work in the newly established international information section of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and was accepted into the ideological department. Later he became head of the ideological department of the Central Committee of the KPSU.

At the beginning of 1991 Karagesyan was accepted to work in the Presidential Press Service of the USSR in the Kremlin. He worked there until the end of 1991.

From February 1992 he worked in the service of international relations and contacts with the press of the international social foundation for socio-economic and political research ( Gorbachev Foundation ). He deals with foundation contacts with German partners and accompanies the foundation president on his trips to Germany.

He advised the chairman of the Committee of Civil Societies in Russia and Germany « Petersburg Dialogue ».

In 2006 he took part in the round table on the subject of "Decline of the Soviet Union: Reasons and Consequences" as part of "Gorbachev's Reading".

He is the author of several books and numerous publications in Russian and foreign media. In 2016 he published the book Gorbachev in Life together with VA Polyakow .

In October 2019 he became an invited guest expert on the shooting of the documentary "Raisa's Stern", to which Raisa Gorbachev is dedicated.
