Karen Levoni Grigorjan ( Armenian Կարեն Լևոնի Գրիգորյան ; born August 15, 1968 in Yerevan ) is an Armenian diplomat . He was the Armenian Ambassador to Iraq from 2014 to October 2018 and has been the Armenian Ambassador to Egypt since November 2018 .

Life

Karen Grigorjan studied from 1985 to 1992, interrupted from his military service in the Red Army from 1987 to 1989, at the State University of Yerevan , where she graduated in Arabic studies . In 1993 he visited the Diplomatic Institute of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in Cairo .

He is married and has a son and a daughter.

Diplomatic career

Karen Grigorjan has been in the foreign service since 1994. He had foreign assignments from 1995 to 1997 at the Armenian consulate in Aleppo , from 1995 to 1997 at the embassy in Beirut and from 2002 to 2004 at the embassy in Damascus . Before his assignment in Damascus, he was temporarily head of the department for the Middle East, North Africa, Arab African countries and Israel in the Armenian Foreign Ministry. At the embassy in Damascus he was later deputy head of mission from 2006 to 2009. From 2011 to 2014 he was the Consul General of Armenia in Aleppo.

Since June 26, 2014, he was the Armenian ambassador in Baghdad in his first assignment as ambassador . He succeeds the Moscow construction tycoon Murad Muradian , who surprisingly was appointed Armenia's first ambassador to Iraq in 2010. Grigoryan's term in Iraq lasted until October 25, 2018. On November 25, 2018, he was appointed Armenian Ambassador to Cairo . He replaces Armen Melkonjan there. Hratschia Poladjan became the new ambassador to Iraq .
