Karen Shahverdyan

Karen Shahverdyan ( Armenian Կարեն Շահվերդյան , Karen Schahwerdjan * 11. November 1969 in Odsun , Armenian SSR ) is an in since 1999 Germany living painter and graphic artist .

life and work

After Shahverdyan had attended the Terlemesjan Art School in Yerevan (Armenia) from 1984 to 1988 , Karen Shahverdyan studied at the State Academy of Arts in Tbilisi from 1989 to 1995 ; completed with diploma. There he began a specialist postgraduate course from 1998–99 , parallel to an internship in the oil painting restoration department at the Tbilisi State Art Museum. His ability, based on solid technical foundations, to reproduce the volumes and materials of a wide variety of objects precisely by drawing and painting has determined his pictorial themes and strategies ever since. It gives his portrayal of optical and existential paradoxes absolute plausibility of appearance: landscapes that, on closer inspection, turn out to be divided into two and ambiguous; Canvas-and-stretcher trompe l'œils ("under cover" series); profane groups of people who reveal themselves to be mysteriously connected to one another by means of hidden signs (“pentagram… ..” series); in movement phases resolved Torero -Stier- allegories (series "suit of light ... ..").
