Panos Terlemesjan ( Armenian Փանոս Թէրլէմէզեան Panos Terlemezyan , Russian Фанос Терлемезян ; born March 3 jul. / 15. March  1865 greg. In Van , † the thirtieth April 1941 in Yerevan ) was an Armenian - Soviet painter .

Terlemesjan, son of the farmer Pogos Terlemesjan, attended the Central College in Van with honors from 1881–1886 and was then a teacher there. He was a member of a youth group in the resistance against Turkish oppression. He trained artistically. He studied 1895-1897 at the College of the Society for the Promotion of the Arts in St. Petersburg and 1899-1904 at the Académie Julian in Paris . He was close friends with Komitas Vardapet .

In 1909 Terlemesjan was elected mayor of Van. At the International Art Exhibition in Munich in 1913, Terlemesjan received a gold medal for the picture of Gawit from the Sanahin Monastery . In 1915, during the Armenian Genocide , Terlemesjan was one of the leaders of the Van uprising . He then lived in France , Italy , Spain and the USA . In 1928 he immigrated to the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic and settled in Yerevan . 1929–1931 he painted industrial pictures that hang in the Armenian National Gallery.

In 1941, the Yerevan School of Art, founded in 1921, was named Terlemesjan. There was a large anniversary exhibition for his 100th birthday.
