Karen Surenovich Khachaturian

Karen Surenowitsch Chatschaturjan ( Russian Карен Суренович Хачатурян ; Armenian Կարեն Սուրենի Խաչատրյանը ; born September 19, 1920 in Moscow ; † July 19, 2011 ibid) was a Russian composer of Armenian descent.

Life

Karen Surenowitsch Chatschaturjan, son of the actor Suren Chatschaturow and nephew Aram Chatschaturjans , initially studied composition with Heinrich Litinski and was a student of Vissarion Schebalin , Dmitri Shostakovich and Nikolai Mjaskowski at the Moscow Conservatory from 1945 to 1949 . From 1951 to 1959 and from 1968 he taught composition at the Conservatory.

He created five symphonies , a sinfonietta , an oratorio , stage and film music, chamber music works and an operetta . Khachaturyan also wrote music for cartoons by the Soviet film studio Soyuzmultfilm .
