Kari Tikka.

Kari Juhani Tikka (born April 13, 1946 in Siilinjärvi ) is a Finnish composer , conductor , oboist and librettist .

Life

He studied oboe, conducting and composition in Helsinki , Saint Petersburg and Rome - a. a. with Joonas Kokkonen and Einojuhani Rautavaara - and then initially became an oboist . From 1970 to 1972 he was a conductor at the Finnish National Opera . He then was the conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1972 to 1976. In addition, he conducted from 1974 to 1976 at the Stockholm Opera . During this time he composed the grace song ( Armolaulu ), which was transmitted as ten languages in more. From 1979 he conducted again at the Finnish National Opera.

In 1986 he founded the Vivo Symphony Orchestra , which he directed until 1996.

His opera Frieda was premiered in 1995 and Luther in 2000 . He added his song of grace to the opera Luther . It was also made into a film, making it the first Finnish opera to appear on DVD.

From 2005 to 2011 he was artistic director of the Urkuyö ja aaria - Festival (translated: Organ and Arias Festival ).

Tikka's compositions include church music , operas , choral works, over 150 songs and chamber music . His works mostly use sacred texts. His best-known work is the song of grace .
