Karin J. Blakemore

Karin J. Blakemore (born 1953 ) is an American geneticist who specializes in gynecology and obstetrics , human genetics, and maternal and fetal medicine . Blakemore's most important contribution to medicine comes from her research as a member of a team that has set itself the goal of genetic disorders through the uterus - transplantation of donor cells with a mouse to fight as an animal model. It was through this initial research into prenatal diagnosis in the first trimester that Blakemore initiated research into uterine bone marrow transplantation in genetic disorders of the fetus.

Career

Karin Blakemore began her education with a BA from the University of Pennsylvania . She received her PhD from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo in 1978 . After studying medicine, Blakemore completed her assistantship at New York University Medical Center with a focus on obstetrics and gynecology. Blakemore then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine in human genetics and later another postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in maternal-fetal medicine.
