Karin Stanek (born August 18, 1943 in Bytom ; † February 15, 2011 in Wolfenbüttel ) was a Polish rock and pop singer.

Career

After attending primary school, she worked as a messenger. Her musical career began in the early 1960s when she appeared as a singer in various talent competitions. In a competition organized by Polskie Radio in Katowice , she qualified for the first Young Talent Festival, held in Szczecin in 1962 . 150 singers took part in this casting show. 30 of them made it to the finals, including Stanek and later well-known artists such as Wojciech Korda , Helena Majdaniec and above all Czesław Niemen . She then became the singer of the band Czerwono-Czarni , one of the most important groups in the Polish version of beat music until 1969. A number of songs were created especially for her, often in the style of rock 'n' roll or folk . She later worked with various mostly short-lived bands such as The Samuels and Schemat.

Stanek received awards at various festivals: 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966 in Opole , 1962 and 1964 in Sopot . At the same time, she expanded her stage presence to Czechoslovakia , Hungary , the Soviet Union and the GDR . In 1976 she traveled to the USA to perform and then to the Federal Republic of Germany , from where she never returned to Poland. She lived in Germany until her death, where she also recorded some records in German and English (including "Let's Have a Party" under the pseudonym Cory Gun). In the ZDF show Disco she appeared with the title “I like you the way you are”. It was only after 1989 that she was seen more frequently in Poland again, and in 1991 her biography was published by Anna Kryszkiewicz. In 2005 her last single "Sex" was released in Germany. In 2007, her health deteriorated and four years later she died early of pneumonia .
