Stephan Karkowsky (born September 1, 1963 in Hameln ) is a German radio presenter , journalist and moderator coach . With more than 200 broadcasts annually since 1987, he is one of the most booked radio presenters in public broadcasting. As a freelancer , he works for various broadcasters.

From 1982 to 1986 he worked as a freelance journalist for print media . a. for dpa and the star . In 1986 he was Germany's first private radio volunteer at Radio ffn and later took over moderation at RIAS 2. In the mid-1990s, he presented the morning program “Frühkurier” on NDR 2 for two weeks a month . Since 1991 he has moderated regularly for Westdeutscher Rundfunk , first in the programs WDR 1 or 1LIVE and WDR 2 , today for the opinion magazine Politikum and for the radio house talks on WDR 5 . Today (as of 2020) it can be heard regularly nationwide in the early broadcast Studio Neun on Deutschlandfunk Kultur and in the science magazine Die Profis on Radio Eins from RBB. His music program Late Night Lounge has also been on Radio Eins since 2001 ; Every Saturday morning, forensic biologist Mark Benecke is a live guest at Die Profis . On the TV channel ARD-alpha, he moderates the program Campus Talks at irregular intervals.

Stephan Karkowsky has published two novels under the pseudonym Stefan Fester . His degrees include a Licentiatus Rerum Publicarum in the subject of further training for journalists from the Free University of Berlin and an International Master of Global Public Policy (MGPP) from the University of Potsdam. In 2011 he was nominated for the German Radio Prize in the 'Best Moderator' category.
