Athletic career

In 1956, the 18-year-old Karl-Heinz Drzysga won the championship title in the Erfurt district league with the company sports association (BSG) Motor Sömmerda and rose with the team in the third-class II. GDR league . When BSG Motor had to relegate back to the district league in 1960, Drzysga and his teammates Erwin Seifert and Rainer Knobloch moved to the top division and football focus of the region, SC Turbine Erfurt.

In 1961/62, GDR football was changed from the calendar season to the summer-spring rhythm, and 39 games had to be played in the major league from February 1961 to June 1962. The SC Turbine first used newcomer Drzysga in the reserve team before he made three league appearances as a substitute on the 11th, 12th and 18th matchdays. Only when midfielder Karl-Heinz Brandt was out for a long time did coach Wolfgang Seifert regularly fall back on Drzysga from the 24th matchday on, so that he made 15 league appearances by the end of the season, but without scoring. For the season 1962/63 Drzysga was again nominated for the league squad, and although several SC Turbine players were out during the season, Drzysga was only used in one of the six series and only five in the second half of the league games. 1963/64 coach Seifert completely renounced the use of Drzysga, the SC Turbine was relegated from the league. In the GDR league season 1964/65 Drzysga returned to the team of the 1st team and was involved with 14 league appearances in 30 games and three goals in the successful rise.

After Drzysga had not been considered again in the league season 1965/66, he returned for the 1966/67 season to BSG Motor Sömmerda in the district league. There he won the district cup in 1969 and the district championship in 1970, but missed qualifying for the GDR league in the promotion games. After he had ended his career as an active football player after 21 Oberliga and 14 GDR league games, he then became a junior coach in Sömmerda.
