Rainer Knobloch (born November 7, 1938 , † November 18, 2010 ) was a German football player. In Erfurt and Jena he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . He was also a junior and national B player.

Athletic career

Rainer Knobloch took his first steps in football as a student at the tractor company sports association (BSG) in Großneuhausen, Thuringia . In 1957, at the age of 18, he moved to the district town of BSG Motor Sömmerda in the third-class 2nd GDR league .

In 1959, after two seasons, he was delegated to the GDR upper division club SC Turbine Erfurt , the regional football club. There he was used in the second half of the season as a replacement for the retired striker Siegfried Vollrath . From the 16th matchday on, he played all league games until the end of the season and scored his first three league goals in these eleven games. The SC Turbine ended the season as relegated to the GDR league . The fact that Erfurt were able to move up to the league again after a year was due, among other things, to Knobloch, who was able to be called up as a center forward in all 26 games and became the league's top scorer with 18 goals.

In 1961, GDR football operations were switched from the calendar year to the summer-spring rhythm. In addition, a 39-game season was played in the major league from March 1961 to June 1962. Again Knobloch proved to be an important pillar of the team, he played all 39 point games in which he played again as a center forward and with 20 goals behind Erwin Seifert was the second best attacker from Erfurt. In the following two seasons until 1964 Knobloch played all 52 league games and scored a total of 17 goals. Between 1961 and 1962 Knobloch was a member of the GDR junior national team. With her he played three internationals, and in 1962 he was used in a B international.

When SC Turbine Erfurt had to relegate for the second time in 1964, the GDR Football Association arranged for Knobloch to continue playing in the major league at SC Motor Jena . There he was used from the fifth game day and was called up in the following 21 point games by the end of the season. After he first played right winger, he was mainly used as a center forward in the second half of the season. He scored six goals. At the end of the season he was with SC Motor Jena as the right winger in the final of the GDR soccer cup , which the Jena lost 2-1 to SC Aufbau Magdeburg .

Since the Erfurt managed to immediately rise again, Knobloch returned to SC Turbine for the 1965/66 season. In contrast to Jena, he was now mainly used as a half-left striker and scored four goals in his 25 appearances. In January 1966 the soccer section of the SC Turbine was restructured to the newly founded FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and was relegated for the third time at the end of the season. This time Knobloch was allowed to stay in Erfurt, but with 20 appearances in 30 GDR league point games and three goals in the repeated immediate resurgence, he was only involved to a limited extent. In the top division season 1967/68 Knobloch was only used 16 times (one goal). The game Rot-Weiß Erfurt - Lokomotive Stendal (3-0), in which he was only substituted for 14 minutes, was Knobloch's last appearance in the league. He had reached 143 for Erfurt and 22 league appearances for Jena and scored 51 goals (45 for Erfurt). Until 1969 he played for the 2nd team of FC Rot-Weiß, which competed in the GDR league. He had already been used there in the 1967/68 season. In both seasons he completed 35 point games and scored two goals.

For the 1969/70 season Knobloch went back to Sömmerda and joined his former BSG, where he was active as a football player until 1978. He started with the team in the third-rate district league and helped her in 1971 to rise to the GDR league , which was renamed BSG Zentronik for the occasion. By 1978 Knobloch played 143 GDR league games in which he scored 17 goals. He then became the trainer for the first team of the BSG, which was now called Robotron, for two years. In his first year as a trainer, he went down with the team again in the district league.
