Karl-Heinz Jörgens

Karl-Heinz Jörgens (born January 18, 1920 in the area of ​​what will later become the Wuppertal ; † September 3, 2015 in Baunatal ) was a German brigadier general in the army of the Bundeswehr .

Life

Jörgens became a soldier immediately after graduating from high school and took part in World War II . After his release from British captivity , he completed a commercial apprenticeship in 1946. He then completed training as a pyrotechnician and worked in the pyrotechnic industry. In 1957 he joined the Bundeswehr with the rank of captain . He was employed in Lüneburg (Commander Panzergrenadierbataillon 82), Munster, Neustadt bei Marburg and in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn. From 1970 to 1975 he was commander of the 6th Panzer Brigade in Neustadt / Stadtallendorf and then deputy commander of the 2nd Jägerdivision in Kassel. He retired in 1980.

Since 1970, the Catholic Jörgens has been committed to helping disabled and needy people. From a first call for a “conflagration of good will”, the first Kuratorium Aktion für Behinderte (AfbM Hessen; from later a total of seven such boards) emerged in 1974 , which became the largest non-state disability aid in the state of Hessen. For this he collected more than ten million euros in donations. He is the namesake of the Brigadier General Karl-Heinz-Jörgens-Glas award .
