History of the refuge and the Stuhlecker section

A ruin-like refuge was the reason for tourists from Vienna to found the “Alpine Society of Stoolers” on January 3, 1890. In the year it was founded, nine paths were laid out and marked, but it was not until 1906 that a piece of land was bought and the Karl-Lechner-Haus opened on September 1, 1907. The Karl-Lechner-Haus was the company's second hut, previously the Rudolf-Schober-Hütte had been opened on September 1, 1895 . Due to the First World War, the Alois-Günther-Haus was only opened on September 8, 1917, although construction had already started in 1913 on its own property.

The association joined the Austria section of the DÖAV on November 1, 1930 . After the Second World War, the huts were confiscated by the Allies. The association was re-established on July 18, 1948 and received the confiscated huts back. The association joined the OeAV in 1950 and became the Stuhlecker section.

The Alois-Günther-Haus had to be closed in 1956 due to excessive regulatory requirements. In 1985 it was sold to the Edelweiss Section. The Rudolf-Schober-Hütte was renovated from the proceeds of the sale in 1960 and 1961 and a supply road was built. In 1966 the Rudolf-Schober-Hütte was ceremoniously reopened.
