Karl-Ludwig Mönkemeier
Karl-Ludwig Mönkemeier (born September 30, 1923 in Stiepelse ; † May 8, 2009 in Hamburg ) was a German lawyer and Hamburg port director.
Life
In 1937 he came to Hamburg-Harburg . He studied law in Hamburg and received his doctorate . From 1968 he held the important position of port director in the economic authority as head of the port and shipping department. His name is inextricably linked with the development of the Port of Hamburg into a modern universal port . For his services at the end of September 1986, shortly before his retirement, he received the Port Portugaleser, a valuable silver coin that is otherwise only given to heads of state. The port director, who spoke perfectly flat and was known in Hamburg port circles as " He lücht " or KLM and Mister Hafen, brought the Hamburg port closer to kings, presidents, politicians and business leaders on the Senate's own barge Hamburg . The King of Jordan, Hussein , was so impressed by the official's charm that he presented him with a gold watch. Karl-Ludwig Mönkemeier died at the age of 85 in 2009.
