The Senator is a former Hamburg Senate launch.
history
The ship was built in the early 1940s for the Gauleiter of Hamburg, Karl Kaufmann , but it was never completed. After the war, the Hamburgische Strom- und Hafenbau had the Hamburg built from the hull at the Burmester shipyard in Bremen , which the water police took over as a passenger ship for official guests a little later .
On January 1, 1972, it was again taken over by the electricity and port construction department and was extensively modernized at the Pohl & Jozwiak shipyard . There was an elegant large salon and a small salon. From September 1972, the Senate launch under the name Strom- und Hafenbau was used to tour the Port of Hamburg by senate guests, including the Queen of England and the King of Tonga.
At the end of 2002 the Senate launch was decommissioned by the city for reasons of economy, and the tradition that began with the Schaarhörn came to an end. Most recently, operating costs of around 290,000 euros a year were incurred. The ship was taken over at the beginning of March 2003 for around 150,000 euros by a Hamburg launch operator who, as a Senator, got it back on the road.
