Stiepelse ( Low German Stiepels ) is a village in the district Sumte of the municipality of Amt Neuhaus in Lower Saxony .

The village is located directly on the Elbe , the location has remained unchanged for the last 130 years. The large Niedersachsenhöfe stand with the residential gable on the water side and overlook the sandy beach in front of them.

history

The village of Stiepelse is one of the oldest settlements in the Elbe valley . The first documentary mention comes from the year 1206. For the year 1848 it is stated that Stiepelse had 31 residential buildings in which 272 inhabitants lived. At the time the place belonged to the Bleckede office and had a school. On December 1, 1910, Stiepelse had 197 inhabitants in the Bleckede district . After the German reunification , the place changed as part of the territorial changes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on June 30, 1993 from the municipality of Teldau in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to the municipality of Sumte in the Lower Saxony district of Lüneburg . On October 1, 1993, Sumte and Stiepelse were incorporated into the municipality of Amt Neuhaus.

Marienkapelle in Stiepelse

There is evidence that the town has had a church since the 15th century, which until 1945 was a branch church of the parish church in Barskamp on the other side of the Elbe. The current Marienkapelle dates from the years 1852 and 1853. It was extensively renovated until 1997 and is available for tours.
