Bitter ( Low German bitter ) is a village in the Kaarßen district of the municipality of Amt Neuhaus in Lower Saxony .

The place is one kilometer north of Hitzacker on the opposite bank of the Elbe .

history

For the year 1848 it is stated that Bitter had 24 residential buildings in which 272 residents lived. At the time the place belonged to the Hitzacker Office and was parish off to Hitzacker; the school was in town. On December 1, 1910, Bitter had 193 residents in the Bleckede district . As part of the territorial changes in Mecklenburg , Bitter was incorporated into Kaarßen on July 1, 1950. After German reunification , the place moved on June 30, 1993 from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to Lower Saxony in the district of Lüneburg . On October 1, 1993, Kaarßen was incorporated into the municipality of Amt Neuhaus with Bitter.
