Konau ( Low German Kaunau ) is a village in the district of Haar in the municipality of Amt Neuhaus in Lower Saxony .

geography

Konau is considered to be the world's only completely preserved Marschhufendorf and is a listed building. It is located in the Lower Saxony Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve directly on the Elbe . Neuhaus , the seat of the municipality, is five kilometers northwest of the village.

For the year 1848 it is stated that Konau had 19 residential buildings in which 171 people lived. At the time the place was parish after Stapel , but a branch church was in the place, as well as a school. On December 1, 1910, Konau in the Bleckede district had 98 inhabitants. As part of the territorial changes in Mecklenburg , Konau was incorporated into Darchau on July 1, 1950. After German reunification , the place moved on June 30, 1993 from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to Lower Saxony in the district of Lüneburg . On October 1, 1993 Konau was incorporated into the Neuhaus district.

Buildings

The St. Lukas Chapel is located in Konau . The chapel is the only new church that was ever allowed to be built in the restricted area of the GDR .
