Karl-Oskar Mosebach (born January 26, 1919 in Merseburg , † February 3, 2006 in Brühl (Rhineland) ) was a German chemist specializing in physiological chemistry. He taught at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry at the University of Bonn.

Life

Karl-Oskar Mosebach grew up in Merseburg, where his father was mayor until 1933. He attended the cathedral grammar school there. After graduating from high school in 1938, Mosebach was called up for the Reich Labor Service and then for the Wehrmacht . It was used in Norway and on the Eastern Front. After returning from English captivity in March 1946, he moved to Bonn and began to study chemistry there in the winter semester of 1946/47. He received his doctorate in 1954 with the topic "Histidine as an effector of D-amino acid oxidase" and continued his work as a scientist at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry at the University of Bonn under Wilhelm Dirscherl . He completed his habilitation in 1965, the subject of his thesis was "Intermediate metabolism and physiological significance of L-histidine". After his habilitation, he became an adjunct professor for physiological chemistry at the same institute, where he stayed until his retirement in 1984.

In 1951 Karl-Oskar Mosebach married Herta Ebert, with whom he lived until his death. The marriage had three children.

Mosebach was an enthusiastic violinist and played in a string quartet for many years into old age . He was a member of the KDB Rheno-Guestphalia zu Bonn in the RKDB . From 1988 to 2001 he was their senior executive ( Philistine senior ). He was also very involved in the Protestant Church.

Science and Research

In addition to various basic research topics, especially on the effects of steroids , a focus in the late 1960s was protein biosynthesis , and in the 1980s a series of research on the artificial nutrition of seriously injured persons on behalf of the German armed forces . Mosebach also wrote a textbook on physiological chemistry for students.
