history

Beginning of the 20th century until 1948

October 26, 1909, with the founding of the Academic-Scientific Association Renaissance , whose tradition eventually led to the KDB Rheno-Guestphalia through the KDB Rheinstein, is named as the historical date of foundation . Renaissance has its origins in the Academic Görres Association (AGV) in Munich, founded in 1892 , from whose ranks the Association of Catholic Student Associations for the Care of Science (WV) was founded, which Renaissance joined after its foundation. Like other Catholic associations, the WV represented the principle of religion - science - friendship . Renaissance was not colored, but gold-white-green color tips were worn, the motto was "Fides lux scientia". After the First World War, the WV dissolved, Renaissance initially continued its activities without an association, but suffered from a decline in membership as a result of the war and the subsequent political and economic changes. In 1925, the corporation joined the Bonn Corporations Representative Assembly . Renaissance representatives charged in Salonwichs on the occasion of a visit by President Hindenburg to Bonn, which was an outward sign of a change away from the original principles. In the summer semester of 1926, the General Convention decided to start accession negotiations with the Cartel Association (non-colored) and the RKDB (colored), as both associations corresponded to the corporation's catholicity principle, but the RKDB also adhered to the greater German concept. The RKDB agreed to the admission, it took place officially on the Ringtag (Association Day) in June 1927 in Würzburg. With the inclusion in the RKDB, the connection was renamed KDB Rheinstein. Since the RKDB is a color-bearing association, this principle was adopted, due to the overlap of the previous colors with those of another Bonn corporation, the new colors blue-white-green were set. The motto "Fides lux scientia" was retained. At that time there were 1 fox , 14 boys and 40 Philistines . In Nazism , although the self-dissolution was avoided, but also the legal status as an association was no longer permitted but after July 1937th The old rulers continued to meet weekly in the Hotel Continental, even during the war, so that the 34th Foundation Festival could take place as early as 1948, as the first after the war, due to the ongoing contacts between them.

From 1948

The founding of the KDB Rheno-Guestphalia took place at this foundation festival on June 12, 1948 in the "Franziskaner" in Bonn. The old rulers of the KDB Rheinstein decided to jointly found the KDB Rheno-Guestphalia by merging with the KDB Novesia in Cologne. At the same time there was a reception of 11 activists who represented the new Aktivitas . In a radical departure from the previous orientation, the articles of association stipulated "to work with all their might on the national and social tasks of Germany and to work for the unity and freedom of the Germans" in the statutes, reflecting back on the original fraternity Formulated a renunciation of party political ties. The newly founded KDB Rheno-Guestphalia decided together with the KDB Sigfridia zu Bonn to re-establish the RKDB, which was dissolved in 1935. In the period that followed, the connection experienced a dynamic rise, so that many active people could be relegated to new or re-established KDBs. In the course of the Una sancta movement , members of the Protestant faith were accepted at the end of the 1940s, which led to a dispute with the old rulers, who wanted to adhere to the principle of catholicity, as a result of which the Protestant members resigned and joined forces in 1949 Evangelical German Burschenschaft (EDB) Cheruskia Bonn merged, but was suspended again in 1950.

Activitas has remained unchanged to this day, while the majority of the KDBs had to be inactive over the years.

House club

In the course of the times from 1909 onwards, various corporate offices in Bonn were home to the respective connections. After the First World War it was "Im Krug zum Grünen Kranze" on Koblenzer Strasse until it was destroyed in World War II, from 1948 "Im Goldenen Löwen". In the 1960s, the "Berliner Hof" hotel was the home of the connection. Specifically after the founding of the KDB Rheno-Guestphalia, the desire for a house for the connection arose again. On August 21, 1958 the house association Rheno-Guestphalie e. V. founded in order to provide the financial means for the house purchase and to act as a sponsoring association. In October 1968, the house at Meckenheimer Allee 100, which has been used as a connecting house to this day, was bought and mostly converted in-house by Aktivitas. A taproom and the pub room were set up on the first floor, and the remaining rooms were converted into student apartments.
