Karl-Wilhelm Blum

Karl-Wilhelm Blum (born July 23, 1939 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German economist and emeritus professor of economics at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences .

Life and work

Blum passed the Abitur in 1959 at the classical Arndt-Gymnasium in Krefeld . After studying economics at the universities of Tübingen and Munich with a degree in economics in Tübingen in 1964, a research stay on regional and development policy in Rome and southern Italy was made possible thanks to a scholarship from the Volkswagen factory foundation . This was followed by the doctorate to Dr. rer. pole. at the University of Tübingen in 1968 (subject: Development policy measures as determinants of economic growth in southern Italy from 1950 to 1965 , supervisor: Prof. Norbert Kloten ) and work as a research assistant and administrative manager at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tübingen until 1975.

After being appointed to the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences in 1975 (since 2003 Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences), Blum turned to teaching and research beyond the subject of economics and economic policy to the subjects of European economy and the economy and society of China (from 1986).

One of the main areas of activity was international university cooperation (ERASMUS, USA, China). To be emphasized are:

• Co-development of the integrated EC “ European Business Studies ” course (EBS; Economics with a focus on the EC) 1976; Appointment by the Minister for Science and Art of the State of Lower Saxony as project manager of the corresponding model test, 1979; Against the background of the student exchange activities, there were various coordination and teaching stays at partner universities in Great Britain, France and southern Europe and lectures at various universities in the USA
• 1986 participation in the first professor delegation of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture to China, visit to the United University of Hefei, now Hefei University, province of Anhui and subsequently to this day various visits to this partner university in Hefei and other universities in China, more intensive development Exchange relations, implementation of delegation visits, conferences and excursions
• Guest teaching semesters at Hefei University took place in 1992, 1996 and 2000.

Furthermore, the implementation of five DAAD follow-up seminars in China on the subject of "Economy - Technology - Environment" at the University of Hefei, the Hangzhou Technical Institute, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and the Qingdao Ocean University, 1999–2002 is worth mentioning . In addition, Blum's work also includes extensive lecture activities at many universities and institutions in the Chinese province of Anhui with the following topics, among others: industrial development policy, university cooperation, establishment and internationalization of study programs, "Bologna process", the need for regional expansion of international university cooperation in centers in the Anhui province.

He retired from the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences in 2004.

Blum is married and has two children. He lives in Melle . Since 1959 he has been a member of the Catholic student union AV Cheruskia Tübingen .

Honors

• 1990: Erasmus Prize from the Commission of the European Communities

• 1996: First recipient of the Huangshan Friendship Award of Anhui Province, China
• since 2009: Honorary advisor to the government of Anhui Province, China, for application-oriented study programs

• Chairman of the Europa-Union district of Osnabrück from 1984 to 1996
• Voluntary continuation of the China cooperation with Hefei University after 2004
• Collaboration in setting up the binational logistics degree program LOGinCHINA at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and the Hefei University since 2006
• Collaboration in the University Center China (HZC) at the University of Osnabrück
• Teaching and lecturing in China
