Karl Adolph Paalzow , also Karl Adolf Paalzow and Carl Adolph Paalzow , called Adolph Paalzow, (born August 5, 1823 in Rathenow , † January 1, 1908 in Berlin ), was a German physicist .

Life

Adolph Paalzow taught physics at the artillery and engineering school in Berlin from 1856, received his doctorate in Halle in 1858 (De Brewsteri Operibus Opticis) and was then professor at the artillery and engineering school. He completed his habilitation in Berlin and went to Bern as a professor in 1869, but returned to Berlin in the same year. From 1873 he worked as a physics professor at the trade academy in Klosterstrasse . He was the first physicist at this university and was also a professor at the Royal Military Academy . In the trade academy he was head of a larger physics laboratory. As such, he took over the management of the Physikalisches Kabinett in 1886/87, which later became the Physics Collection of the Technical University. He constructed various apparatuses himself, which he also used for his lectures in experimental physics. On October 1, 1904, after many years of teaching, he retired as a lecturer at the Technical University of Charlottenburg .

In 1892 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1899 he became a secret councilor. He was on the board of trustees of the Physikalisch-Technische Reichsanstalt and in that of the technical examination offices.
