Karl Albert (born October 3, 1878 in Vienna , † November 10, 1952 in Drosendorf ) was an Austrian graphic artist and non-fiction author.

Life

Karl Albert was the son of the government councilor, professor and head of the section at the Graphic Education and Research Institute Vienna, August Albert and his wife Theresia, née Mondom. After completing his training at the same institution, he held a managerial position in various companies in the graphics industry for many years. He was head of the department for photogravure and copperplate printing at the Bohemian graphic arts institute “Unie” in Prague (1902); Heliograph at The Alt Photogravure Co. Ltd. in London; Technical Director of the Graphic Society Golicke &. Wilborg in St. Petersburg (1904/05); General Director of the Hungarian Reproduction Company in Budapest (1915); Technical director of the printing u. Verlags-A.-G. "Athenaeum" in Budapest (1915). In addition, in 1912, together with a partner, he founded the graphic art workshop Albert & Co. , Vienna, II. Taborstrasse 17a. During the First World War he served as a first lieutenant in the Landsturm .

In 1922, Karl Albert succeeded his retired father at the graphic teaching and research institute. He took over the management of the department for light and stone printing, offset printing and related printing techniques. In the following years he was awarded the title of professor and councilor. He also worked as a lecturer at the criminal investigation institute there and after the death of his father became the sole owner of the Albert & Son company in Vienna.

Albert was a board member of the kk Photographische Gesellschaft in Vienna and a member of the Vienna Photographers' Cooperative.

Karl Albert published numerous articles on graphic topics such as heliogravure and gravure printing in relevant journals such as Der Deutsch-Österreichische Photograph and Photographische Correspondenz . From 1934 he was editor of the Photographic Correspondence . His most famous publication was the Lexicon of Graphic Techniques , published in Halle (Saale) in 1927 . In the same year he also wrote the biography of Karl Klietsch , the inventor of heliogravure and squeegee intaglio printing .
