Karl Althaus

Karl Althaus (born January 9, 1924 in Niederschelden , † February 22, 1989 in Siegen ) was a German local politician ( SPD ). From 1966 to 1974 he was Lord Mayor of Siegen.

Career

Althaus joined the SPD in 1953, where he was chairman in the city of Siegen for several years until 1974 and deputy chairman in the SPD subdistrict Siegen-Wittgenstein from 1967 to 1973.

Althaus, a civil engineer and architect by profession, was a member of the City Council of Siegen from 1961 to 1984. From 1964 to 1966 he was mayor, from 1966 with re-election after the local elections in 1969 until December 31, 1974, mayor of the city of Siegen. From 1966, with the re-encirclement of the city of Siegen, Althaus was also a member of the district council of Siegen until 1974.

From January 12, 1975 until the local elections in April 1975, he was appointed by the Minister of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia as a representative for the tasks of the council and the council chairman in connection with the implementation of the local regional reform and the amalgamation of the cities of Siegen, Eiserfeld and Hüttental. From 1979 to 1983 Althaus represented the city of Siegen again as deputy mayor. As part of his local political activities, Althaus, who was also the chairman of the Siegener AWo, was particularly active as the chairman of the sports committee. In 1983 he withdrew from his post for health reasons.

Honors

Karl Althaus was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit in 1980 .
