Karl Eckmann

Karl Eckmann (born May 18, 1910 in Siegen ; † October 26, 1987 ibid) was a North Rhine-Westphalian local politician ( CDU ) and Lord Mayor of the city of Siegen.

Life and politics

Karl Eckmann, a businessman by trade and authorized signatory in technical wholesale, returned late in 1949 from a Soviet prisoner of war. He became a member of the CDU in his home town of Siegen and was chairman of the CDU district association of Siegen (Siegerland) from 1963 to 1968.

From 1956 to 1984 Eckmann was a member of the City Council of Siegen , from 1959 to 1961 also chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the City Council of Siegen. From March 29, 1961 to October 5, 1966, Eckmann was Siegener council chairman, he was twice elected mayor of the city of Siegen after the local elections, in 1961 and 1964 . From 1966 to 1974 he was also a member of the district council of the Siegen district .

From 1965 to 1980 Eckmann was a deputy member representative of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia in the Broadcasting Council of West German Broadcasting (WDR). Eckmann was a synodal body of the Evangelical Church in the church district of Siegen. Eckmann had been a long-term member of the main board of the Evangelical Hospital Association in Siegerland since the 1960s.

As a late returnee, Eckmann was also active as chairman of the district association of returnees for many years and as their association representative at state level. From 1971 to 1983 Eckmann was also the chairman of the Siegerland Homeland and History Association .
