Siegerland homeland and history association

The Siegerland Heimat- und Geschichtsverein is a Heimatverein founded in 1911 for the Siegerland and is based in Siegen .

The association was founded in 1911 as the "Association for local history and homeland security in Siegerlande including neighboring areas". The predecessor was the "Association for Prehistory and Archeology in the Districts of Siegen, Wittgenstein and Altenkirchen", founded in 1879. In 1950 the name was changed to "Siegerland Heimatverein" and again in 1991 to the "Siegerland Heimat- und Geschichtsverein" which exists today.

The Heimat- und Geschichtsverein is recognized as a non-profit association and is dedicated to the knowledge of regional and state history in all areas of historical studies as well as historical auxiliary sciences, including family and heraldic research (excerpt from the statutes § 2 tasks of the association).

The association is the publisher of publications, in particular the magazine Siegerland - Blätter des Siegerländer Heimat- und Geschichtsverein eV as well as the series of articles on the history of the city of Siegen and the Siegerland and articles on Siegerland family history . He is significantly involved in the publication of the Siegerland home calendar . There is a constant exchange with the University of Siegen and the city ​​of Siegen .

The association supports the Siegerland Museum and the library, both housed in the Upper Castle in Siegen. In 1928 the library in the Upper Castle was built through a foundation from the Siegerland Heimatverein. The association is a member of the Westphalian Heimatbund . It has 383 members (2019).
